Need Help With Java Script please

Problems with JavaScript

I have tried to make a slideshow using the W3C tools (their exact code to be fair), but somehow, I think I’m missing some valuable parts to their coding, or that I need to insert into my page for it to work.

They tell me that the first step is the HTML coding part of it, which I put exactly what they have on their site (the link to the page I’m using: W3C Schools Slideshow.

Now, since I’m following their exact code, why, is it NOT doing anything for me, except showing me 700 dots (one for each photo)?

I did the first step, the HTML coding.

Then, I did the second step, the CSS coding.

Then, not knowing where to put it, I put the JavaScript coding at the top of the page, and tried it.  NOTHING!

Yes, I saved it after each step.  I repeated the necessary steps for each photo used in the slideshow.  I even tried to cut out the “full” JavaScript and put in just the code for the “auto” slideshow.  Neither worked.

Now, this is what I’m assuming where these items go:

  1.  The HTML coding goes in the body of the page (which I named slideshow.html)
  2.  The CSS coding goes in a separate page (which I named slide.css)
  3.  That the JavaScript goes in the head (which I tried) or in the body (at the top or bottom, which I also tried).

Since I’m assuming my calculations are right (I’ve made websites before, see SqueakeyCat), then I just don’t understand why it’s not working for me.

Please, if anyone out here can help me with this problem, I’d very much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Kim

Hello world!

I’m a 49 yo mother of a 26 yo son. I do PC Repair, Web Site Design, Accounting, Internet Marketing & Freelance Writing. I’m more or less a computer person. I spend almost 140 hrs a week on here, which only gives me about 28 hrs of sleep per week.

My Quote That People Tend To Like:

“Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you cannot do something. If they do, it just means that they were never able to accomplish it themselves.”

If you listen to them telling you that you cannot do something, you will continue to think that as well. Don’t let this happen to you. You “CAN” do what you want to do, when you want to do it, how you want to do it, where you want to do it, if you only put your mind into doing it. You “CAN” accomplish anything you put your mind into doing, so do not let others tell you that you cannot do it.

Over the last 2 1/2 years I have ventured out of my shell and started doing more of my crafts.  As crafts go, I do cross-stitch, plastic canvas crafts, scrap booking, card making, beaded jewelry, crocheting, paint by numbers (which I make my own by varying some of the colors), and making things with stamps.

I love to work with my hands, and doing my crafts fills the need to use my hands more than the computer does.

I also sell my jewelry.  I am putting together an ETSY site, where my crafts can be bought, but to preview them, or buy the images of them, you can visit our home page site at Creative Images by Jaxs & Kim.  You can also find the Creative Images web site link through our WordPress account Creative Images by Jaxs & Kim WordPress.

Jaxs, my other half, has done a great job with our site.  He went from knowing nothing about HTML, to being able to work with items that even I can’t work with.  This is a very big accomplishment for him.

So, this is my introduction.  If you would like to know anything more about me, just ask me.  If I feel the question is appropriate, then I will answer it, if not, it will be deleted.  So please be nice and don’t ask anything you wouldn’t want the world to see.

Thanks for visiting.
